Stineman’s Career-High 44 Assists Lead Chargers in Win at Highland

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team earned its 20th win of the season and remained the lone unbeaten team in the Arrowhead Conference with a 25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 25-13 victory at Highland on Tuesday night.

The Chargers (20-9, 6-0) got a career-high 44 assists from sophomore Kylie Stineman (Mercer County), filling in for sidelined setter Cora Vyhnanek (West Prairie), as Sandburg put up a .362 hitting percentage in the win.

Leading the attack for the Chargers were sophomores Hannah Thompson (West Prairie) and Josalyn Owens (Lincoln), who each had a team-best 14 kills. Jordan Price (Fulton) added seven kills and three blocks for Sandburg, while Peyton Bowman (West Prairie) had six kills and five blocks.

Libero Haley Stevenson (Galesburg) had 11 digs and a team-leading six of the Chargers’ 15 aces on the night. Thompson served four aces for Sandburg, which continues to close in on its first conference championship since 1990.

SCHEDULE NOTE: The Chargers’ match scheduled for Thursday at home against Lincoln has been postponed. Sandburg’s next scheduled contest is 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at Illinois Valley in another conference match.
